541 Premium: Kay McMahon is in the LPGA Teaching Hall of Fame who established eduKaytion golf dedicated to quality and simplified instruction with her signature Golf 8.5 approach. Too much going on in your head for each shot? With Golf 8.5 there are 4 pre-swing steps followed by only 4.5 in-swing positions which produce a classic golf swing for players at ANY level from beginner to scratch. Golf 8.5 is easily understood, dimple, doable, repeatable, and highly successful.
For Premium Access subscribers, we also share our interview with Elizabeth Hall from the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida, which will also be the location for next year’s ING Conference. This is the first interview captured at the 26th Annual ING (International Network of Golf) conference in Midway, Utah. I conducted 16 interviews and captured a lot of video from this conference and will be sharing it all with you in upcoming episodes.
A theme that ran through the last 2 episodes is golf travel. This week was Pinehurst and last week we learned about Nikanti, a course in Thailand with three 6-hole loops!.
We've had Golf Smarter Adventures in Scottsdale and Prague, and now we're ready to start planning a new trip for Fall 2017.
Please fill out this short 3 question survey and we'll get a sense of your interest. THANKS!
Plus, next week I'll be meeting with some golf travel agencies at the ING conference.
540: Eric Alpenfels is the Director of Instruction at Pinehurst Golf Resort and has been an instructor at Pinehurst for 33 years. He's also the co-author of the book Instinct Putting. Co-authored by Bob Christina, PhD, and Cary Heath, PhD, this book's research shows that looking at the hole, "target vision", improves your distance control on long putts. In this curated version of this week's episode, we discuss how instinct putting works and how it can help.
We also discuss Pinehurst Golf Resort and the nine courses, plus the 18 hole putting course. And we touch on which course to play when you visit depending on your skill level, some great stories about the history of the PGA Tour at Pinehurst, the Pinehurst Golf Academy, and more.
Here's a video excerpt from today's show:
Would you be interested in traveling with Fred Greene and some Golf Smarter listeners for a weekend of golf? Can you please take a minute to answer three questions about a possible trip to either Pinehurst of Thailand in Fall of 2017?

539 Premium: Our guest this week is Mark Siegel of Golf Asia, a golf travel agency that designs golf tours throughout Asia. This time we talk about the Nikanti Golf Club which is an hour outside of Bangkok, Thailand. Nikanti is the first course I'm aware of that has a layout of 18 holes that are designed as 3x6 vs 2x9. We often complain that golf takes too long, but wouldn't it be great if you could choose to play just 6, 12, or the full 18 holes?
Their website says that "Nikanti Golf Club challenges the ordinary and sets a new standard in style and substance in golf in Thailand."
Ever wonder how all that detailed yardage information finds their way to your GPS unit and mobile apps? I came across a guy who works for BestApproach.com while he was mapping out a course in my neighborhood. So I grabbed my phone and shot a short interview with him about exactly what he was doing. Enjoy!
538 Premium: Jim Venetos returns to share his passion and conviction as to why his swing method of Stillness, will bring three critical results to the golf swing that every golfer craves:
• Inside-out path,
• Ball flight with a tight draw,
• Increased distance through better contact.
In this episode we hear an impressive testimonial from TV/Movie actor Richard Schiff on why Jim has had such a profound impact on his game and shooting his lowest score ever. If you'd like to see it, here's the link
